Our Mission

Our mission is to worship God and grow as a loving community of Christians by following Jesus Christ. Our commitment is to reach out, welcome, support and care for all as an extended family, so that the quality of our life together on Vashon Island will reflect God's care and love for the world.

Our Ministries

Outreach

The Outreach Committee is a response to CHS's desire to become a healing presence in our community. We endeavor to support our neighbors across Vashon Island. Our ministries reflect the breadth of our commitment to Social Justice, Hospitality and Community, all rooted in the teachings of Christ. We also sponsor educational forums on topics affecting our community believing that understanding these issues helps us better serve those most impacted. Our committee welcomes anyone who wishes to join.

Pastoral Care

Our Pastoral Care ministry embodies the loving presence of Christ in times of need. We walk alongside parishioners and community members during illness, loss, grief, and life transitions, offering prayer, companionship, and practical support. Through visits to those who are homebound, prayers for healing, support during times of crisis, and simply being present with those who need comfort, our pastoral care team ensures no one faces life's challenges alone.

The Gathering

The Gathering is a weekly discussion group where we share our responses to readings, videos, or presentations. We sometimes share practices such as walking a labyrinth, doing guided meditations, or expressing a religious experience through art. In this safe and supportive environment, we hope to deepen each other's search for a meaningful, spiritual life. To receive each week's readings via email and to get the Zoom link for the Gathering session, please contact the church office.

Wednesdays @ 7:30pm on Zoom

Men's Group

All those in the parish who identify as male are warmly welcomed to attend this gathering where a wide range of subjects is explored over the year. The leadership for each session is shared among the group with the leader selecting the topic for the session. We are a fun group who have a great time sharing thoughts and feelings about our spirituality, the Church, and other topics. Among the many gifts of this group is the age range represented. The conversations are rich and life experiences are shared.

Music

Music has always been central to our worship at Holy Spirit. Under the direction of Erin Durrett, our Music Ministry draws from rich liturgical traditions spanning Episcopal, Celtic, and contemplative practices. From traditional hymns to chant and contemporary sacred music, our musical offerings invite the congregation into deeper prayer and connection with the divine. There are opportunities to participate in worship music, explore workshops on chant as spiritual practice, or simply allow the music to carry your spirit in worship. Music at Holy Spirit is not performance — it's prayer made audible, inviting all to lift their voices in praise.

The Labyrinth at Church of the Holy Spirit

The Labyrinth

Our outdoor labyrinth offers a sacred space for contemplative prayer and meditation, available to all from dawn to dusk. This ancient spiritual tool provides a walking path for quiet reflection, prayer, and centering. Whether you're seeking clarity, peace, or simply a moment to slow down and listen to the movement of the Spirit, the labyrinth welcomes you exactly as you are.

No experience is necessary — simply walk the path at your own pace, allowing the journey itself to become a form of prayer. The labyrinth is open to both church members and the wider Vashon community as a gift of sacred space.
